Wolves move as a pack to take down the smaller and weaker pray. No matter who they are, what gender they are, or what they believe in; these predators will destroy anything that stands in the way of their survival. Lada and her soldiers are similar to these animals in almost every way. Now I Rise, by Kiersten White, is a historical fiction with a flip on a major figure in the fourteen-hundreds. Instead of Vlad the Impaler being a male, in this novel he is a female known as Lada. This gender switch results in many discriminations against Lada: restrictions on her rule, who she can love, and what she is able to accomplish. Lada faces many of the same problems that people face today. Convincing people to support Ladas ambition proved difficult due to her gender. “They would never follow a women prince. Abandon this delusion, Lada.” In this novel, women are denied what they truly want to do with their lives because it is “ to dangerous” or not the purpose. Society in the fourteen-hundreds and the two-thousands still have some of the same prejudices. Being a female is enough to deny children from getting an education in some areas in India. Both Lada and these girls in India will continue to fight for what they desire, despite others people telling them to give up. Always pushing for what is right will forever show how Lada and her soldiers will never give up until they regain the land that is theirs. Lada is that strong leader in her pack. As she moves through the countryside, a mass of people: escaped slaves, wealthy merchants, peasants, and other warriors, follow her through battles to help her take back what was rightfully hers. These people do not know her; however, they know what she believes in and are willing to fight for their common goal. The same kind of events can be seen everyday, form protectors on the side of the road, to people banding together to fight for a cause on the internet. One major parallel is between the protesters over the not-guilty verdict of Jason Stockley, the police officers that shot and killed a man. Hundreds of people came together to talk about something they disagree with even when it puts them in danger. Following Lada with the same sort of mindset, people were able to eventually retrieve what was hers, in the hope for a fairer rule. Words and Actions allow these people are following heading toward a common objective. When people work together they can be successful and accomplish a great deal.
