From the period of 1933-1945 German ruler Aldof Hitler was in power, Aldof had the plan to eliminate every Jewish person or anyone with a Jewish background. The reason behind this was that Aldof could not get over defeat in World War I and he blamed the Jewish people because "they turned their backs on the country." Around 6 million Jews and 5 million prisoners of war died, some were executed and some couldn't stand the harsh conditions. In this historical fiction novel, Number The Stars. Lowis Lowery tells the story of best friends Annemarie and Ellen. But there is a problem: Ellen and her mother and father are Jewish. Throughout the story, we see their desperate acts to stay

The text states, "We were all apprehensive we could be executed for helping them"(Lowery 125). If soldiers found out about Uncle Hendricks's group, they would all be killed. Ellen and her family were hiding under the trap door, along with three families and a newborn baby. They had to stay still and not make a sound to keep a secret. They drugged the baby so they wouldn't cry and bundled everyone up in layers and warm clothes so they wouldn't get cold in the damp wet boat. The historical time contributed to Uncle Hendricks's actions and jeopardized his safety. Aldo Hitler was trying to capture all Jewish people in Europe to punish them for their actions, because Hellen was Jewish. the Holocaust affected her and her parents a lot. In the text, it states "Where are Ellen's parents?" We must help them too"(Lowery 36). Aldo Hitler was trying to kill and harm all Jewish people or anyone with Jewish history. He and his army of Nazi soldiers would go around looking for anyone who is of Jewish decent and Jewish. He would take them and ship them off to concentration camps to be forced into labor.
