Simulation, in the past few years has become an increasingly popular educational tool. It is a technique used in practice to replace real experiences with a guided experience. The training tool is an interactive computer model, teaching-learning method used throughout the students nursing career. Simulation training is applied to theoretical knowledge that uses critical thinking and decision-making skills, role playing, and collaboration with others. This method often allows students to use these skills to ensure safety measures when working with real patients. Simulations have been proven to reduce medical mistakes in a clinical setting as well as ensuring that nursing students are better prepared for emergency situations (cite).

During simulation, nursing students will experience each of these roles to give the student a feel of what it is like to be in another team members shoes. When working as a team, nurses, as well as the other team members, will be able to ensure the right care plan for the ‘Sim Man’ or the standardized patient. The ‘Sim Man’ is a commonly known patient simulator that nurses practice on and use critical thinking skills to perform their task accurately and efficiently (cite). In the clinical setting nursing students will interact with other professions to create an accurate care plan for their patient. Role playing in simulation gives nurses an opportunity to practice their communication skills with others to achieve this goal. According to Kuehn (2017), simulation with nursing has offered many ways to practice interprofessional collaboration with other nursing students, before entering the …show more content…

Simulation is used in a variety of fields and allows students to experience and have a better understanding of what to do in real life situations and/or crisis. Simulation immediate feedback results in the nursing students gaining more self-confidence and increasing their critical thinking and decision-making skills. Simulation continues to demonstrate effectiveness in teaching nurses ‘hands on skills’ that will prepare them for real life situations. Being able to efficiently and effectively perform the necessary skills needed in health care practices during simulation has shown to be very beneficial to the healthcare field by reducing the number of medical mistakes. Being able to perform the necessary skills during simulation in a safe environment, results in producing a self-confident student who has the ability to perform effectively when the time comes to demonstrate those skills with real patients in non-threatening as well as life-threatening
