January 22nd, 2018, I had the honor of interviewing Nahshon Newson, a certified nursing assistant (cna) in Smyrna, De. Mr. Newson has completed the Cna course program at Delaware Technical Community College, which took place from February 2017 until May 2017. Completion of this course allowed him to receive a certificate to become a cna. Mr. Newson then applied for a job in his field as a cna at Pinnacle Rehabilitation. He started working with Pinnacle in April of 2017, about nine months ago. Mr. Newson has plans to continue, a higher education by attending Delaware Technical Community College in the fall to get his LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), so he can move up in the nursing field. Whereas the night shift only has about ten people to check up on. Mr. Newson has done both day and night shift. Day and night shift are enjoyable for Mr. Newson who is a full-time employee. His daily responsibilities are to make sure that his residents are comfortable, that includes bathing, feeding, and helping them get dressed for the day, or getting ready for bed. He also takes his residents vital signs which are the Sb02 (oxygen) levels, to ensure they are getting enough air to breathe. If a patient has soiled their sheets he is responsible for changing their bedding, and making sure they are dry. Muscle contractions in residents are an issue, to avoid this problem Mr. Newson helps his residents by rotating their muscles. Newson is always looking for ways he can better himself as a cna. He follows the saying “To be on time is to be late to be early is to be on time”. Being punctual to work is essential part to be a successful cna. Attendance is a key component as well, not missing any days, it shows reliability, and independence. Another major policy that any can must abide by is integrity. Honesty, is the most important role because, you are dealing with someone’s life, trying to help them receive the best care they can will get. Mr. Newson wants to learn new innovating ways he can be a better nurse to his residents. He wants to make certain his residents are getting the best
