Nursing Internship Personal Statement

After graduation, I will be attending one of two schools: Augustana University or University of South Dakota. No matter what school I decide to attend, I will be majoring in nursing. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved seeing everyone cuts, bumps, and bruises. Blood never made me sick to my stomach either, it actually interested me. My mom always tells me stories about how I also showed her every single cut or bruise I had. I was first introduced to nursing by my step-mom. She is a Registered Nurse at Sanford. Ever since then I have known I wanted to become a nurse. As I began to get older, I took all of the health classes I could. Personally, I did not like working at a nursing home. I think I did not like interning at a nursing home because I currently work at a daycare. I have worked at a daycare since I was sixteen years old and I love it. I love being around little kids and teaching them right from wrong. My second internship was at the Avera Hospital in Respiratory Therapy. I am glad I interned in this area because it showed me that RT is not what I wanted to do for my career. During my internship, I was able to learn about becoming a flight nurse and I even got to see their helicopter. I have also been fascinated by planes. Seeing the helicopter and learning about flight nurses made me think about becoming a flight nurse. I was also able to explore all of the floors in the hospital because RT is needed everywhere. The first time I went to PICU and PEDS, I fell in love. I knew whatever type of nurse I became, I wanted to work with the children. Since I work at a daycare, I know how to make a young child smile and laugh. When I was on the PEDS floor, I saw a nurse anesthetist at work. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.
