Nursing Personal Statement

As the 6th child in a family of 10, I grew up witnessing the struggle that my parents went through to get us to where we are today. We came to America when I was five years old and we were stuck in a two bedroom apartment until my parents saved up enough money to move out. We were very poor and had very little money for food. Eating once a day was the harsh reality and the constant headaches from not having enough calories inside my system will always be in my memories. My brothers and I didn’t understand why the other students had better clothes to wear or why we couldn’t go on any fieldtrips. My mom had to work multiple jobs just to put food on the table. We didn’t have the best living conditions but we had education on our minds.

My personal interest in the pharmaceutical profession is rooted in my desire to be involved in the improvement of others’ health, to be knowledgeable in the various topics pertaining to health care, and to possess the means to explore my fullest potential through a meaningful career. I previously thought about becoming an engineer but my family’s health conditions made me thought otherwise. A year after we stepped foot in America, my dad had to go through two open heart surgery and is now hooked on to a pace maker. Shortly after his surgeries, my sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia. For the 2 years I have been working in some capacity in the pharmacy field, I have enjoyed almost every single day of it and have never dreaded going to work the next day. I wanted to go down the same path as my brother, David Nguyen, who is now a certified Pharmacist at a local CVS.
