Nursing is a profession that is dedicated to advocating for their patients and the families that support them. It is a goal of the nurse to make sure that the patient is properly taken care of by their entire health care team, and they ensure that the patient is treated with the kind of care that they deserve. However, the nurse also has a responsibility to respect their profession and the other nurses that are within the job title. It is important for nurses to be able to advocate for themselves as much as they advocate for their patients which is why they participate in healthcare policies. Officials have limited experience with healthcare, so nurses are able to apply direct patient care experiences to policies that are being made when they become involved in the process. It is important for nurses to understand health policy because nurses have the most patient care experience, they should be well educated on policies while caring for patients, and it can prevent medical errors. …show more content…

It is my goal to be able to use policies for my future patients in the same way that my nurses in the past did for me. Implementing health policies in practice are one of the best ways to ensure a patient’s safety, and I want to be able to provide patients with the same safe care that I was lucky to receive as a child. Health policy can be defined as the actions or steps that are required in order to provide and deliver appropriate care to patients. It is important for health policy to be taught to BSN students because they have more additional knowledge on policies that the degrees of other nurses; there are more informative courses on policies and protocols in a BSN program that an AND or LPN program.
