Nursing Philosophy Statement

According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as “protection, promotion, and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2004, p.7). Over the many years as a nurse, I do realize there is much more to nursing than that. I do believe that you choose to be a nurse because you do care for others and not for just a paycheck.
My future education plans, first of all, will be to finish this last weeks of class for my BSN! Following the completion of my BSN, I plan to continue to a Master’s Program. The Master’s program was a 2-year goal for me and am right on track with that. I have already been in contact with the advisors to apply for the program. I do plan on taking a break for the summer and then starting in the fall. My first 5-year goal would be to finish that program. I have really enjoyed teaching nursing clinical and thought I would like to teach in a classroom. There are two main reasons for learning throughout life. One reason being personal development and the other for professional development. These reasons may not necessarily be distinct as personal development can improve your employment opportunities and professional development can enable personal growth (Skills you need, 2017). I do believe that as a lifelong learner, I am motivated to learn and continue to develop my skills because I want it. I believe that when it is a voluntary act it is more deliberate.
