TEACCH was developed by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The TEACCH method is not considered an actual therapy but rather a therapeutic tool to help autistic individuals understand their surroundings [1]. The prime method used in TEACCH is on visual approach. This method focusses on 5 main areas; Physical Structure, Scheduling, Work system, Routine and Visual Structure and they are all based on visual materials. It provides control environment in order not to confuse autistic child during their education process. The TEACCH method is primarily used to assist the autistic individual in better understanding his/her environment. The techniques described above are not faded out over time; but rather, they are to be consistently used across a variety of environments [1] PEC is an upgrade version of ABA program. It was developed in 1985 at Delaware Autistic Program. It’s a way of communication using picture whereby a non-verbal autistic individual uses picture to structure a sentence and present it to the other person. While ABA techniques including speech imitation, sign language, and picture point systems, relied on the teacher to initiate social interaction, PECS teaches children to initiate conversation. PECS has been criticized due to their method that probably won’t improve speech verbally, however, studies shows that some children begin to spontaneously use speech while enrolled in the PECS program.
