In this assignment, we were asked to explain the profession on which we chose to enter after school, as well as, the education and skills needed to be able to succeed in finding a career. Then define our goals for our chosen career and 5-year plan. Though it may be the beginning of this journey and hard to see the end. I have pictured myself becoming a Nutritionist for a long time and have done the research on what is needed before applying to school. Some states require you to acquire a certificate after college as well or even earn some hours at an internship. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, many Dietitians and Nutritionist go on to further their education with master’s degrees or doctorates. Typically, a Dietitian will receive several hundreds of hours training with a supervisor, in the form of an internship. Most states will require a Nutritionist to be licensed to practice, other states only require registration or certification to use certain titles and a very few states have no regulations. The requirements for state licensure and certification vary upon location, most generally require a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or a related area, completing the supervised internship, and passing the exam. The BLS says may dietitians choose to obtain the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential, which is administered by the commission on Dietetic Registration, a credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The RDN requires a bachelor’s degree and a Dietetic Internship, which consists of 1200 hours of supervised experience. And to maintain the RDN dietitians must complete 75 continuing education credits every 5 years. Analytical Skills, they should be able to interpret scientific studies and translate Nutrition science into practical eating advice. Compassion, professionals need to be caring and empathetic when helping clients address health and dietary issues and any emotional roller coaster that go along with it. Listening Skills, they must listen carefully to understand a clients goals and concerns, as well as, listening to other team members when collaborating on a plan. Organizational Skills, they should be able to stay organized. Problem-solving Skills, they must evaluate the health status of patients and determine the most appropriate food choices for a client to improve his/her health or manage their disease. Speaking skills, they must be able to explain complicated topics in a way that people with less technical knowledge can understand. When applying this to the personality quiz taken last unit I found out a lot of things that will help me in the field of nutrition. My highest score 37, was in the Artistic Category, which when applied to being a nutritionist, it will help me find creative ways to help people find the right diet plan for them especially if they have restrictions. My next two highest scores, 24, were in both the Investigative and social categories, which will go along with the problem-solving skill, speaking skill, compassion skill, and listening skill that the BLS
