Society as a whole has been lugging around the affects of obesity both literally and financially. And the epidemic is growing at an alarming rate, and it is creating a burden. Who will step up to solve this problem? Is there anyone who is even remotely to blame for the 2 Trillion dollar cost to society? And is the problem likely to get worse before it gets better?

To answer these question we must first step back to understand what is the problem and what exactly is at stake. Firstly, the problem, apparently obesity is on the rise, some 30% of the world's population is affected. And what is at stake, well, general well being for one, and the cost to society as a whole. Even in a past election, here in Colorado, voters voted on the labeling of GMOs. Clearly, the interest in living healthy, and healthy living are of paramount interest. But, is it the government's? Well the short answer is yes, the long answer is much more difficult to grasp. Remember, the government acts in accordance to the voice of the people. And I find that there are various types of these people. The very vocal, these are the fanatics who feel that the government and the businesses are doing wrong and something needs to change, interestingly enough, these people are also already healthy eaters and watch what they eat. Then there are the overweight vocals, who feel that their obesity is brought on by others and that others are responsible for what they put in their own bodies. The vocals, these are just the average Joe, demanding social justice on social media sites, they know something needs to be done, but they are too busy to do much more than like a post or continue a rant on Facebook, they typically are only educated by internet memes and the such.
