Obesity continuously increases more and more each year. Children ages 5-12 has increased 4% in 1971-1975 to 18% in 2009-2010 and another significant amount of increase at 25% in 2011-2015. ‘Junk food’ television advertising is not the only reason why the childhood obesity rates are becoming higher. It’s mainly the parent’s responsibility to influence what their children should and what they can’t. The schools they attend is also another high influence, schools have a high amount of foods that are known as ‘junk food’ schools also hold many fundraisers that usually sell many foods that aren’t healthy. Another influences is their own peers. They can influence what they want to eat, by copying their foods and wanting the same lunches. Parents are among the major culprits when children pack on the pounds. Children tend to eat what their parents eat and they also eat what their parents buy as well. Researchers found children are more likely to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day if their parents do. They can influence you into eating what they consume. Who we dine with affects what we eat. If we eat with someone who is eating a large amount then we are likely to model what they eat and consume more than we would eat if we were dining alone If kids sees their friends eating that’s what they would want to eat. Friends are always influencing kids to eat what they eat because that’s how they advertise it to them. Instead of advertising electronically they are advertised by their own surroundings. Friends are one of your role models, which than gives them an advantage to copy and learn off their friends.
