Many different athletic activities recommend diverse assets of skills. Athletes demand to increase these skills to pursue their desired sport. To succeed at any team sport, everyone must be superb at all of the recommended skills. Hockey necessitates learning ability, various skills, and sportsmanship.

The ability to learn is useful when playing the sport of hockey. Some of the best youth hockey players have learned to accept new skills. Many coaches draw certain drills on the board during practice. These drills can be confusing if one does not pay attention or does not understand a topic. Puck handling is what gets hockey players around defenders and puts the puck in the net. Players use the skill of puck handling to score goals and move the puck around the ice. Hockey athletes are not very threatening to the other team without the ability to score their team goals. Players use puck skills every second of the game. A player named Pavel Datsyuk used his puck skills on a breakaway and scored his team a goal. Another skill hockey players might want to acquire before hitting the ice is skating. Being able to move to the puck is the first step in becoming a sensational hockey player. Skating can be used for a variety of things, including crossovers, strides, tight turns, and even mohawks. Skating is used all the time to prevent and score goals. For example, a player named Claude Giroux fell behind on a play, but used his speed to catch the puck carrier before he could score a goal. Good sportsmanship keeps players on the ice, in the game, and mentally focused. One reason why sportsmanship is important is because it helps teammates stay focused. If someone is not sportsmanlike, they would not be cheering on teammates and the team may lose focus or state of mind. If a person takes a penalty because they are talking trash, teammates would not like them very much. Teammates also do not enjoy things like yelling at the referee, or mumbling softly. Mumbling makes other people think the person is either mad, or lackadaisical. As one can see, that certainly may be defeating a team’s heart to win hockey games. Sportsmanship also can lead into discipline, and discipline can get athletes far as a hockey player. Hockey scouts for good colleges often look at a player's penalty minutes in the decision of giving scholarships. Relating to the same topic, scouts usually scout the players on the best teams the league, and a team would not be very good if they are always killing a penalty. Although pushing, shoving, and physical contact is part of the game, these aspects need to be kept in check. Hopefully, it has been made clear how bad discipline can hold anyone back when developing a career. There are many other purposes for using sportsmanship in any sport, not just
