Pre-urban Chicago had numerous obstacles to overcome in order to become the bustling metropolis that it did in the 1830’s. These problems included: the need to expel the indigenous people, the original prairie characteristics of the land, the landlocked location of the lake, a lack of willing investors and an economic plan. Due to a burst of solutions and the perseverance of local boosters, all of these obstacles would be conquered, leading Chicago into a new era of technological advancement and style of living.
