Obstruction and Resisting Arrest On 10/26/2015 around 2230 hours, I, Sgt. Samuel Mendoza, was working in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Jail when we received a call that a deputy was bringing in a combative male. I went to the jail entrance to wait on the deputy. When the deputy arrived with the male subject, I opened the left rear passenger side door of the patrol car and began to talk with him. He was sitting on the right rear side of the patrol car. The man was calm at this time and I asked him how he was doing. The male replied, “Not too good. I’m in a place I don’t need to be.” I asked him if he was going to be calm when he gets out of the patrol car. His behavior was much better and he told Officer Kevin Coon that he was a “good officer” and “he loved him.” Christopher’s behavior quickly changed and he got into another verbal argument with another inmate. Christopher asked the man “What the fuck are you looking at?” “Do you want your ass beat?” Christopher was escorted out of the booking area and placed back in the restrain chair. Jail staff attempted to finish the booking process but Christopher refused to cooperate. He tried to start another fight with an inmate and he would not allow his photo to be taken. Christopher was taking to psych housing and placed in an isolation room. I and Officer Coon went back later to check on Christopher. Christopher was acting much better. He said that he was a recovering alcoholic and had been clean for 18 months. Christopher said that he “slipped” last night and was deep into his addiction. He said that he does not remember much about last night and that he must have been “blackout.” Christopher apologized for his actions and said he was returning to AA as soon as he is released from jail.
