Obtaining an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Systems in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical Management in 2005 fueled my desire to continue my education in pursuit of a Master’s Degree. While researching Online Master’s Degree programs I came across an article discussing the newly affordable Online Master of Science in Computer Science degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. Still owing students loans after obtaining my Bachelor’s degree, I was overjoyed to see the word “affordable,” so I began researching everything I could find about the program.

For many years, I had a desire to teach adult education. I had to be honest with myself in realizing that I had been stuck in a comfort zone and I knew in my heart that I should have made a career move within the previous five years of my obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree.

While out of work, I decided to take a job prep course through the local community. There, I met an instructor who allowed me to assist her with leading the course. In addition, she put me in contact with the President of Continuing Education, whom I contacted for an informational interview to discuss what it takes to be successful in a career in Adult Education. My next career move would open that very door.

After eleven months of unemployment and a diligent search, I was hired for a short-term contract to do documentation and support of a project. Within a week, I was asked to host a couple of lunch-and-learn sessions for the local staff. After agreeing, I was told the schedule would be provided. When I received the schedule, a couple of lunch-and-learns had become eight. Over a course of five months, the role evolved rapidly from support and documentation to Corporate Trainer as I traveled to three states providing 39 training sessions for the organization.
