Involvement with the Family The occupational therapist involvement with the family can be troublesome due to the lack of professionalism. When providing home care, it is natural for the patient’s family to see an individual, regardless of their title, as a guest. Being seen as a guest, the family would part take in social gestures such as offering food, drinks, and even given gifts to show their appreciation. However, these gestures can disguise the role between them both. Eventually, leading to conversations and situations concerning family issues which can affects the patient’s treatment. Yet, the increase in personal conversation allows the family and the patient to become relaxed and open about their feelings regarding the treatment. Resulting in more opportunities for the therapist to educated the family on topics such as: supportive strategies, medical advice, and ways they can participate in the treatment process to make it more beneficial.
