I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be placed at your clinic as a student of Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant on the Rehab unit. I believe that the services you have to offer are incredibly unremarkable such acute care and specialized programs. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge about Trillium Health Care Hospital and what it has to offer. I am currently enrolled in semester two of the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program at Humber College. My previous work at Etobicoke General Hospital as a Co-op student has given me the opportunity to get the hands-on experience that they do not offer at school.
One of the reasons I want to become an Occupational Therapist Assistant is to help people who have been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” People with Asperger’s syndrome are often misjudged because of their “disabilities.” Symptoms of Aspergers: There are several different symptoms that are shown when a person has Asperger’s Syndrome. I have always wanted to work in healthcare as I feel it is important to help others and provide a service that can have a significant impact on someone’s life. Occupational Therapy provides me the opportunity to have an impact on people’s lives because of the way that they can work with their clients. Unlike most professions in the healthcare field, OTs work together with the client rather than strictly telling them what to do during their treatment. This is important as it helps build a connection between the OT and the client and helps the client feel more empowered in the treatment process. Another reason why Occupational Therapy is a field that I want to pursue is the many areas of practice and opportunities to work with people of different
The occupational therapist would collaborate with the counselors at the refuge house to enhance the ability of the survivors and families to participate in daily living occupations. Lastly, occupational therapist has an ethical responsibility to take actions that promote the health and safety
However, When an OTA goes back and studies for a two-year associate’s degree and becomes a COTA, they can supervise the OT since they are considered to have more knowledge than the OT’s. This may be necessary for situations when the occupation therapy assistant is working in partnership with the occupational therapy. This helps promote promotion growth with the aim of achieving competence. In this case, both the OT and OTA have the responsibility for creating a collaborative progressive working plan. The difference between supervision of an OT aide and that of an OT when done by the OTA is due to how much the supervision is done.
It is common for occupational therapists to give their patients jobs such as

and intrigued by the mind-body connection as well as the importance of human activity and occupation in maintaining mental and physical well-being. At the same time, my desire to work directly with people and be able to make a positive and lasting change to their lives by empowering them and helping discover their strengths and confidence in themselves to achieve their goals, led me to a realization that a career in occupational therapy would be a perfect fit for me. To me occupational therapy is a dynamic, rewarding, challenging, and inspiring field where I can fully realize my skills and knowledge. Having always been a firm believer in the patient-centric approach, I am passionate about providing excellent service to patients by improving their performance, preventing illness and disability and promoting adaptation to life
As an occupational therapist I would like to help individuals who are differently abled gain quality of life and independence by improving upon both mental and physical challenges to function as a whole person, as this is what I understand the role of the occupational therapist from both personal and observational experience to be. I believe this is accomplished through providing encouragement and support, educating each client and their loved
Becoming an occupational therapist is my passion and my long-term career goal. Since a young age I have been incredibly inspired and motivated to befriend and help disabled individuals. Having grown up with a disabled mother who benefited from the services of occupational therapy I had the opportunity to see first hand how the experience gave can give individuals like her fulfilling and productive lives. With both parents working as healthcare professionals, including my mother who is now an occupational therapist herself, I see every day how rewarding the field is. Through my life I have had unique personal, professional and educational experiences that have shaped me into a strong candidate for an advanced education in occupational therapy.

Occupational therapist’s main roles include encouraging clients to develop new skills, helping them find improved ways of completing activities, manipulating the individual’s residence or workspace to meet their needs, or through providing therapy devices and equipment (About Occupational Therapy, 2018). When prescribing therapy devices, the occupational therapist must ensure the client knows how to best use it to ensure the client gets a full solution, not just a product (About Occupational Therapy, 2018). I have always had the intense desire to care and look after people from a very young age. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the best quality of life possible and this is what had drawn me to occupational therapy as a career path in the first place. It is so easy to take for granted all the everyday tasks we can do and we seldom consider the effect of not being able to complete them. As an occupational therapist I would be able to make a positive impact on someone’s life and make it possible for them to enjoy their life. I want the opportunity to provide support to people, help them gain independence and watch them grow more confident in their own ability.
It’s been a rough journey trying to find a career that I am interested in for my profession. When I discovered occupational therapy, I didn’t know much about the field. A family friend of mine was the one who introduced, because I always knew that I wanted to work with families and infants. I then did some research and found occupational therapy that specializes in infants. I wasn’t aware that you could be an occupational therapist that works with infants, until the end of my senior year of high school.
