The 1997 movie As Good As It Gets is a romantic comedy which stars Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall. The movie is set in New York City and it’s a subject of finding love, developing relationships, and experiencing life. Melvin is a middle-aged man who is unmarried and writes about love that he’s never really known. Melvin is a protagonist, who has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), is a novelist who works at home, and often a rude and arrogant individual to all he meets. Carol Connelly is a waitress at a diner; which Melvin adores and a single mother. Spencer Connelly is Carol’s son who needs constant attention because he suffers from life-threatening asthma. Throughout the film, Melvin displays many behaviors that exhibit OCD traits. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is known as a disability in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), and behaviors that drive them to do something over (compulsions). His behaviors are more compulsive than obsessive and are often triggered by anxiety. For instance, he compulsively locks his door and flips the light switch five times each.
