Shakespeare praises Octavius Caesar's wisdom and patience in his dealing with circumstances and he does not rush to the conclusion. Shakespeare's Octavius listens carefully then he thinks and decides the best, unlike his rival, Antony, who asks only for a summary. Shakespeare creates a comparison between Antony and Octavius Caesar in which he views Octavius as the one who is wise and who listens carefully to the news that come from the messengers (I. iv. 40 – 45), unlike Antony who only seeks for summaries and he is out of patience to hear the whole story or to hear the messenger to the end (I. i. 18 – 20). This situation "Our Arms an easie Victory have found / Over a Foe, in love and pleasure drown'd" (I. i. 1 – 2), shows the relationship between Octavius and Antony as "Foe[s]" (I. i. 2), and this is not shown in Shakespeare's version of Antony and Cleopatra because Shakespeare does not want to create an image of revenge by Octavius and he does not want to show Octavius as a one who seeks to conquer another Roman, so Octavius in Shakespeare's version of the play always criticizes Antony's actions and his ignorant to his duty. Octavius in Shakespeare's play never accuses Antony of being an enemy and that is due to his Roman morals which forbids him of accusing another Roman of being an enemy.
