Hero: “a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities” (Merriam-Webster) Evident in many classic stories, the hero is always the character that makes the justifiable choice. Their role as the hero is never questioned. The hero always prevails, and in the end, the hero accomplishes the journey with greater wisdom, knowledge, and reestablished views of the world that compensates for the horrors they encounter along the journey.
In part one of Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus uses his epic hero qualities to help him out on his quest to get back home to Ithaca. He’s shows superb intelligence when fighting the cyclopes in “Book 9.” That’s a quality of superhuman intelligence that Odysseus possessed all throughout his entire journey. Another epic hero quality that helped Odysseus was help from Greek gods and goddesses. In part two of Homer’s Odyssey, Athena helped out Odysseus when he got back to his home land.
Have you ever heard of an anti-hero? Anti-heroes are typically seen as good or bad. The stories Things Fall Apart and The Odyssey both have anti-heros. The main character in Things Fall Apart is Okonkwo, and the main character in The Odyssey is Odysseus. They both are anti-heroes.
Odysseus portrays those three heroic traits throughout his voyage home to Ithaca, which is why he is a hero. Odysseus is highly dedicated to his reputation and ego for the whole of his rocky and treacherous journey. From going up against a cyclops that is five times the size of him, to placing wax upon his crewmates’ ears to mute the singing of the Sirens, Odysseus is brave when he faces his fears and intelligent when he creates lifesaving tools from ship materials. A modern hero can be someone who saves a life or even sacrifices his or her own for someone else. Odysseus can be compared to a modern hero because he risks his own life to protect his crewmates.
In the epic The Odyssey, the epic hero Odysseus shows many hero like traits, in my opinion the most important trait would be loyalty. Odysseus, the hero of The Odyssey, first shows the trait loyalty on the Land of the Lotus Eaters. Odysseus sends three of his best men to check out this island, but bad luck has them and they run into Lotus Eaters who are addicted to the Lotus Plant. The next they know is the three men become addicted also.
Is Odysseus An Epic Hero? Humans have been writing and telling stories of epic heroes for hundreds of years, and there are several traits that make an epic hero epic. The Odyssey is an epic poem telling the story of the protagonist Odysseus on a long and adventurous journey across the sea to get back to his home in Ithaca. In the poem Odysseus must come face to face with the gods, outsmart monsters, and battle all kinds of other entities. Due to the supernatural and dangerous nature of his enemies and his remarkable physical strength and intelligence, it is apparent
Odysseus is not a hero because he stabs Polyphemus in the eye and blinds him. Odysseus is still a hero because he is a leader. Moreover, after Odysseus and his men fight the Cicones, he orders ¨Back and Quickly! Out to sea again!” (Homer 984).
Heroes are, “People who take risks despite fear”(Source 2). In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus faces many challenges that make him a hero. He battles monsters, goddesses, and enchantresses. Odysseus is a hero in the way that he uses his brain to think about and approach dilemmas. When he and his men are on the Cyclops’ island, Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name was Nobody.
The concept of hero has been interpreted in many ways throughout the ages. Hero have gone from knights slaying dragons and rescuing the princess, to heroes who save the world with their supernatural-like powers, to a modern day hero who is someone who has noble qualities and is regarded as a role model. In the epic, The Odyssey, by Robert Fagles, the heroic Odysseus is a well known in Greek mythology. However, although Odysseus is the most respected, honorable hero of Greek mythology he is not a modern hero. A modern day hero is someone who puts their life on the line to save the lives of other innocent people.
The qualities that heroes should have are smarts so they can get out of tough situations such as if the villain traps them in a bind. The other thing they need to be cunning to use their skills to escape or evade their enemies. They should be fearless because if they're not fearless they might die because they would freeze up from the fear. Also they need to be strong physically and mentally if they're not strong they couldn't get out of difficult situations. Odysseus is not a typical hero because he’s unfaithful to his wife, he’s arrogant, and he puts his crew in terrible situations where most of them will die, though he still has all the qualities a hero should possess.
The odyssey, an epic told by Homer in ancient greece, has many major themes following odysseus’s adventures. While Odysseus is sentenced to never return home after the Trojan War. He is overcoming challenges to return home to his wife penelope and his son Telemachus. Throughout the story major themes of loyalty, hospitality and vengeance are hidden within the plot. The story continues to show his heroic side with three major traits.
My father, Odysseus, has been out to war since I was a young boy and I have not seen him in 20 years. In consequence, I never had a peer to educate me. In addition, the suitors constantly abuse my mother and my father’s property in Ithaca. Therefore, I, Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, pledge to find if my father is dead or alive. Mentes came to Ithaca and came to greet me.
A great leader, a warrior and a husband that became famous because of the concept of Trojan horse and the Greek hero, he was ODYSSEUS. In the world that full of war there might be a leader that will protect and fight his kingdom like Odysseus. In the present day, the politicians might be the hero of his or her community from different risks, enemies, consequences and problems. The movie of The Odyssey, Odysseus tempted many times like when he affair to Calypso, a nymph, but he realized that his wife and son need and wait him no matter what happen but he don 't have ship to get out on that island of Calypso. Hermes the messenger of gods and goddesses, persuades Calypso to let Odysseus build a ship and leave.
Odysseus is a hero and demonstrated it many times . On multiple occasions, he fights off creatures, such as in book 12 where he fights off Scylla. Another significant reason that proves that Odysseus was an ideal hero, is the fact that at the end of the story he is able to reach Ithaca and establish peace on the island with the help of Athena. Perhaps the most compelling argument in favor of Odysseus being the ideal Greek hero is the encounter
In the book The Odyssey, the main character, Odysseus, is a man who is loved and respected by many. In the beginning of the book, we learn that Odysseus has left on a journey and, since it has been many years since his departure, many people assume that he has passed. On his journey, he portrays his many traits, not all of them being good ones either. Some of his good traits include his cunning, bravery, and hard work ethic. On the other hand, his negative traits are his excessive pride, immense curiosity, and rather large temper.
