In two different epic poems, two men seem to relate and differ very effortlessly. The Iliad, is an epic poem about a war fought over a women and how a men not being able to get over their egos. The Odyssey is also an epic poem about a man trying to get home to the love of his life and get on with his own but is being held back by different dilemmas. Both these epic poems, have epic heroes in them as well. Both heroes being comparable and nothing like, Achilles the greatest Greek warrior and Odysseus the clever intelligent Greek. There are three similarities and three differences theses heroes show: Both sexually frustrated, violent and go on a journey. Odysseus is cleverer, gets home to his wife, and loves women in a different way than Achilles. First, these two bold men are both sexually frustrated, Achilles in the Iliad and Odysseus in the Odyssey. Achilles type of frustration is he just likes the power of control he has over the women. In the Iliad when Agamemnon takes Briseis from him all he wants is to get her back, not because he loves her but because that is his prize. Achilles view on women is like his property, nothing more. In the Iliad Achilles goes to battle knowing he won’t make it home because that is his destiny. Achilles ends up dying in Troy by an arrow shot threw his Achilles tendon, because that’s his weak spot on his body. Odysseus on that other hand makes it home to Penelope and is son Telemachos. In the Odyssey Athena keeps trying to convince Poseidon to let him go home. She also tells Zeus to let him home too, he tells her to wait.
