In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus should be considered a hero! Odysseus has done more good deeds than bad deeds throughout the years of the Odyssey. Odysseus has saved lives more than he has taken them for no good reason. Odysseus has honored people more than dishonored people.

Today’s hero code is completely different than in Odysseus’s time. The honor was more important than you life. Sacrificing yourself to act of heroism was more important than it is now. Back then heroism was kill or be killed, savage and merciless. The highest honor is won battle anything else is an inferior honor. In victory, you must have a trophy like a head, weapon or piece of armor. Not of a lot of things have changed since then in terms of what is described as a heroic action or not. One major change is not many people bring back trophies these days. He was clever in knowing this cyclops was Poseidon's son. Telling his real name would get him cursed so he told the cyclops his name was Noman. "Cyclopsm, have some wine, now that you have had your human flesh..." (Line 345) After eating some of Odysseus' men, Odysseus got the cyclops drunk and stabbed him in the eye. While Polyphemus was in pain, Odysseus disguised him and his men under the sheep and they ran out with their lives and Polyphemus' sheep. This is a great example of his cunningness in battle.
