Learning Life Lessons from Odysseus’s Journey Kaylee O’Connell

From reading the Odyssey, I can learn a few different life lessons from Odysseus’ journey. Thinking back, the first thing I think of is how you should respect other people because you do need their help. Such as, Audeus helped Odysseus by giving him the bag of bad winds. Audeus gave him all the winds, but didn’t have the west wind in the bag. If Odysseus’ crew and him wouldn't have opened the bag, they would have returned to Ithaca safely and a lot earlier than when they really did. Another way someone help Odysseus was during the Trojan War. If Odysseus wouldn’t have had his crew, he would not have gotten the horse built all by himself in that amount of time. Once it was built, it kept them safely hidden inside while they waited for the Trojans to be asleep. When they finally all fell asleep, they got out of the wooden horse, attacking and killing the Trojans. After all, they did end up winning the war without losing any of the men. In life in general, you do need others to help you out. Such as, everyday teachers are teaching us important lessons so we understand different topics needed in life. The entire journey lasted 20 years which is a very long time to be gone for both Odysseus and Penelope. Odysseus was away from his family struggling to get home, sometimes without anyone but himself. On the other hand, Penelope had to be patient to see if he was ever going to come home. Before Odysseus left, he told Penelope to wait to marry until Telemachus had a full grown beard. If he did, Odysseus was most likely dead. Just like in life, Penelope had to be patient many years to see if he were alive like we have to be patient to get what we want. If you want something it doesn’t just come to you, you have to give it time and wait for
