The Odyssey is a book and movie narrating the journey of Odysseus on his way back to Ithaca after fighting in the Trojan War. As of any book that has been made into a movie, there are many differences between the book and movie. Whether it’s due to casting issues, budgeting, or film length, there are bound to be differences. I’m going to be comparing and contrasting four scenes of the book and movie. These scenes will include “The Cyclops Island”, “Meeting the Swineherd”, Meeting Telemachus”, and “The River of Fire”. The first similarity is when the are on the cyclops island. In both the book and the movie, the cyclops enters his cave to find them eating his cheese. The cyclops then starts to eat his men. Odysseus and his men then make a large spike and stab the cyclops in his eye, blinding him. Odysseus tricks the cyclops by saying his name is “Noh Body” which led to the cyclops calling out to the other saying “nobody” stabbed him and blinded him. They escape by hiding under the sheep as they go out to graze as they did in the book. …show more content…
In both the books and the movie, he meets Eumaeus and he is treated as a guest since that was the usual tradition at that time. Eumaeus serves him food and drink even though he is disguised as a beggar in both the book and the movie. Eumaeus acts very kindly toward him which is the main similarity in this
