A character is like chess pieces on the chess board. Destiny is also like chess pieces on the chess board. There are numerous paths to get to the other side. We sometimes know or don’t know which paths to take. We also sometimes know or don’t know what our destiny is. How do people get to know their own character? What do we do once we know our destiny? Once we know, how do we know we are going down the right path to get to the other side without getting eaten by the pieces? Will people feel scared once they made the wrong choice? Like a chess game, there are obstacles and sometimes unpredictable moves by the opponent that will lead to the destiny of the game. If Oedipus was not a good person, he would not get complimented by the words great and glorious. Oedipus would also not have helped save his citizens without receiving a reward or gift from the citizens first. On the contrary, Oedipus wants to save his citizens from goodwill and also shows responsibility as a king to take care of his citizens. Although, Oedipus is a good person, the second part of Aristotle 's definition of tragedy states that the good person is also an imperfect person whose life is destroyed by a weakness in their moral character, personality, or judgment. Oedipus’s weakness is in his judgment. For instance, Oedipus has poor judgment in rational thinking. To demonstrate, because of Oedipus’s poor judgment, he releases his anger in a violent manner without thinking through about his actions. Since Oedipus have poor judgment, he justifies his actions by thinking it’s okay to harm others back if they harmed him first.
