Of Mice and Men: A Banned Book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a novella that talks about two men that are in search of jobs in order to accomplish their goal, a little piece of land just enough for them to have a little farm. The two main characters are named George Milton and Lennie Small. Both are seen as almost brothers throughout the novella , but aren’t even related. The novella talks about their adventure looking for a job in order for them to start saving money for their farm. Lennie is a mentally challenged giant that acts like a kid throughout the whole novella. While George is the complete opposite. George is a very small man that protects and take care of Lennie. But throughout the entire story , it is made evident to both the characters and the reader that George is destined to be alone. …show more content…

Steinbeck also talked about rape in his book when Lennie first met Curly’s wife. Curly was the owner of the land Lennie and George were working on. As good as Steinbeck’s book may sound , this book has actually been banned due to the offensive language, racism, and violence he brings into his novella. According to Marshall University, in 2001 the book was banned for using offensive language , racism and violence and being unsuited to age groups. Also in 2003, Grandville High School challenged this law because they believed that this book was required for High School students to read. The result of this action was that the book was then banned in George County schools for profanity
