“Honesty and loyalty are key. If two people can be honest with each other about everything, that's probably the biggest key to loyalty” Taylor Lautner. This relates to the novel by John Steinbeck Of Mice and Men by showing that two men that are honest with each other will have loyalty in their friendship. George was loyal to Lennie even after all of the scandalous acts, Curley wanted to make sure his wife is safe and another significant example is Candy’s dog was Candy’s best friend. These three examples show that friends should be loyal to the extent that they do not inflict unnecessary suffering like Georges tolerance for Lennie, Curley's allegiance to his wife and Candy’s devotion for his dog.

Russell Danielle Dueck English 12 December 20, 2022 The Line Between Mercy and Murder Internet writer, Mokokoma Mokhonoana, observes that “Some people are lucky to no longer be, and some are unlucky to still be, alive.” This quote perfectly represents the concept of what is known as mercy killing. In John Steinbeck’s 1937 novel, Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie are two ranch hands living together, trying to make a stake for themselves. The patterns of trust and subsequent betrayal found in the Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, serve to teach lessons about what it was like for African Americans in post-slavery America, when the book is set. The Invisible Man trusts easily and naively. Yet, despite working hard, he is betrayed by the institutions and people he looks up to as role models as they exploit his expectations for their own agenda. Overall, there are four strong examples of those taking advantage and hurting the Invisible Man. With each incident, he learns a lesson about how blatantly the black population is disregarded, along with being given an object that represents the underlying racism found in a society.
