Crooks was a black man and of the lower class and Curley was a white man and of the upper class. In the book, Curley's life seems to be a lot better than crooks and he gets better treatment. They're both men they just have a different skin color. The book Of Mice and Men shows us the diversity in characters to show how bad it was for people of lesser wealth or intelligence in the 1930's. People were treated differently because of things such as race, wealth, and intelligence and I honestly think it's wrong because we're all human and we all deserve to be treated with the same respect. Crooks wasn't like the other men on the ranch. He was the only black man. He thinks that just because he's wealthier than most of the men and he's the boss' son, he's bigger and better than everyone else. I doubt he would be as wealthy if he was on his own. He also always wants to fight everyone. “Curley's pretty handy. He done quite a bit in the ring.” (pg26) He thinks he's so much stronger than all of them, but he's a lot smaller. Overall, Curley just thinks he's the best. But, in reality, I don't think he is. He works just like all the other men, he just has more money. Why should he be treated better just because he has more money than the other men? They're doing the same job so they should have an equal amount of wealth. Curley is higher up in society because he's wealthy, but also because he's a white man. The time era in which the book Of Mice and Men took place, whites and blacks were segregated. White men were treated better than black men and white men had control over their wives. It's hard for me to understand why wealthier white men were treated better than other white men who didn't make as more or why white people are treated better than black people. We're all human and we can't decide our skin
