The importance of learning when to let go during friendships Surround yourself with people who will not hinder your dreams and believe & assist those dreams. In the novela Of mice and Men By John Steinbeck, it's proclaimed that dreams cannot be achieved alone, thus companionship is needed to fulfill those dreams but friendship can also hinder those dreams along the way. So is friendship really needed to achieve those goals & dreams?
Can one execute dreams alone? Is another person needed? In Of mice and men, The character Candy can not execute his dreams of having his own farm and animals, until George and Lennie appear. This demonstrates that companionship is needed to fulfill those dreams. To begin with, Candy Overhears George and Lennie talking about their dreams and the three of them make a plan so they can achieve those dreams together, in the future. “Candy went excitedly, “How much they want for a place like that.” (Steinbeck 59) In this case the quote shows that friendship can bring you closer to your dreams. Lennie overhears that and gets excited because one of his desires is to have a dog, so he asks George to get one of the pups for him. “Lennie was watching George excitedly. George rumpled his cards into a messy pile. “Yeah!” George said, “ I heard him, lennie. I’ll ask him.” (Steinbeck 2) This supports my thesis because Lennie dreams of having a dog and is excited to have one. He asks George to ask Slim to get him a brown and white dog so he can finally get a dog. Additionally, it demonstrates that friendship can lead you to accomplish certain dreams.
