In the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck the quotation from Steinbeck himself is illustrated in the novella. My interpretation of the quotation is that everybody is lonely and we try to feel less lonely, one of the ways we do this is by storytelling. The method is as old as time yet it works. We try to show a connection through this by relating to the story, we feel the same way about it. We understand how the storyteller is feeling, sometimes we have to beg for it. Then, we aren’t as lonely as we previously thought. Through my interpretation I can see that the storytelling aspect and having to beg for the listener to listen is embodied in the novella. Crooks is speaking about his life and Lennie interrupts, “How long you think it’ll be before them pups will be old enough to pet?”(p.70) Lennie talks about the pups when Crooks is telling a story of his childhood.
