To Begin, The Handmaid’s Tale is a very bumpy road to uncertainty. The novel begins by introducing a character known as offred who is shown to be very intellectual. She is held at the Red Center where they re-educate women.This is where Moria is introduced she is a rebel and actually ends up escaping the red center only to be caught. Later on it is revealed that she has become a prostitute rather than to become a handmaid.Offred is a complicated individual she has many personality traits she's loving yet distant but at the same time a fool. After leaving the red center she is taken to the commander's house .here she meets the commander's wife serena joy. Serena joy used to preach on television and treats offered very rudely . the whole reason offred is at the commander's house is because she's supposed to be the vessel of life . …show more content…

In the future where the story takes place the world is very polluted and there is an infertility problem due to radiation and many other variables.the story takes place in the town of gilead the american government was overthrown by religious extremist known as the eyes. The eyes are also a secret force to control the women and people of gilead. The story has many variables and frequently jumps from the past to the present to even the future . Offred tells of how she, her daughter, and her husband tried to flee to canada only to be caught and separated. Later on in the story she speaks of how much she misses her daughter. Once the commander starts to speak with offred they start to have sex. Serena joy has to lay below offred while she has sex with the commander and offred is not allowed to speak. They have sex multiple times every month when offred is at a certain point in her menstrual cycle. Ofred does not get pregnant so they send her to the doctor to check if she's infertile. The doctor says that it's mostly the commander is infertile then offers to have sex with
