Through the ages, children’s books and fairy tales have proven to be one of the greatest wonders of human life. One of the specific tales that has captured the attention of many individuals is Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Place’s You’ll Go. In the short book, we follow a young child as he sets off into the world to see what life will bring him. The boy in the book quickly learns that not everything along the way is happy, but also learns that these bad bumps in life can be conquered, leading to new exciting places. This book, much like other children’s books and fairy tales, focuses on life itself, which can in fact grab the attention of its readers. Through the support from authors such as Maria Tatar, one can see that this short story can prove to be beneficial for children in understanding the world.

Seuss’ book is storytelling. In Maria Tatar’s book The Annotated Classic Fairy Tales, she does an excellent job in describing the true power of storytelling. She writes, “Often it is the experience of reading out loud or retelling that produces the most powerful resonances and responses” (Tatar). For instance, when one would read, “Somehow you’ll escape/ all that waiting and staying/ You’ll find the bright places/ where Boom Bands are playing” (Dr. Suess), it gives of a more positive tone. If someone were to read to this with a low and dull tone, the magical aspects of escaping the perils would disappear. Part of what makes words powerful is the way that they can be read and the emotions that are formed. This sense of magic attracts readers, pulls them into their imagination. The emotions that are formed create a sense of comfort with the stories, something they can relate more to. Without a lively way of reading the tale, it would lose the personal connection individuals may form with the
