Originating from Seattle, Washington, the Oklahoma City Thunder are now one of the top teams in the NBA in terms of on-the-court talent and fandom. With a somewhat controversial move from Seattle to Oklahoma City, they surprisingly still have one of the most passionate fan bases in all of basketball today. This is thanks to the mission statement, the way their organization is run, and they care about the product that they put out. There are many established franchises in the NBA today with a long storied history, so the fact that they are able to succeed in so many areas is a true testament to how well-established they are. Originally partnered with Bally Sports, who has since gone through bankruptcy, the Thunder once again proved that they care about their fan base by allowing some of their remaining games from this season to be broadcasted for free over local channels of T.V. and radio in the Oklahoma area. Relating to sponsors, the Thunder, and Love’s Travel Stops announced a multi-year expansion of the partnership this month. Showcasing what it means to have a partnership, the two have also included the OKC jerseys with Love’s patch on them to the youth YMCA Thunder Basketball League. This is an excellent way for both sides to get their brands out in a positive way to the youth members of the community. All of these groups impacted by the Oklahoma City Thunder are prime examples of stakeholders outside of the team. The kids, the parents, and the community all have expressed interest in the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have successfully built their brand to be one of the top in the NBA without being in a major city, which is truly hard to do.
