Olafur Eliasson has a very interesting collection of artworks involving space and light. If the school were to install one of his artworks on our campus, I would propose his work called The Weather Project, which he installed in London’s Tate Modern. It’s an astonishing work that has a “semi-circular yellow disk, mirror on the ceiling, some fog, and some haze”, as Eliasson explained. He wanted to make space feel real. If it would be installed on our campus, I believe it could be placed in the spacious gym. This piece needs the biggest space possible, especially a high ceiling, and the gymnasium would prove most suitable. A small classroom would not give the same effect and a café would be too busy to give the work enough praise. However, there would have to be an option to temporarily remove the artwork while …show more content…
I would want to install The Weather Project over the other works because the work is interesting, interactive, and stimulating. This installation uses fog and haze that creates a mystic mood and I believe students will have the ability to relax and let their mind wander. This viewing of the piece could make students get “lost” in the fog and haze, as result, reducing stress. The work is not something that they would need to analyze or ponder over because it is not a complicated artwork that might confuse its viewers. For instance, when Eliasson poured green dye in the running waters of many cities, people would stop and maybe panic at first due to the first impression of it appearing as if the water is contaminated or dangerous. That work might confuse several students in a campus and might not be a best option. When students interact by looking at the mirrors with some haze, The Weather Project could reduce any school stress they might feel and create a tranquil mood. Eliasson’s waterfall installation, such as the one under the Brooklyn Bridge, could also not be an ideal work in our
