In the book titled “THE LAST LECTURE” by Randy Rausch, the protagonist of the story is Randy Pausch and the antagonist is pancreatic cancer. One page 4 chapter 1 it states that “That week, however, I got the news: My most recent treatment hadn’t worked. I had just months to live”. In that quote, it started a conflict that was not only alarming to his wife Jai and to his three kids, Logan, Dylan, and Chloe but alarming to himself to know that his time was coming to an end, and he is approaching his deathbed. Randy and Jai decided to take their concerns to a psychotherapist, Michele Reiss, She specializes in helping families when one member is confronting a terminal illness.
This story has many hidden meanings. For example, the story focuses on an animal rebellion that is leading to animalism. This could be an allegory for a communist movement. That is because of the “all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others” style the movement in the story has.
WHen they make produce, instead of humans taking it for themselves the animals would have their produce from all the labour they have done to themselves for once. Old major also says “ almost overnight we could become rich and free. With that we must do? Why work night and day, body and soul, for the overthrow of the human race.” Then he goes on a little later and says “ That is my message to you, comrades rebellion!
I believe that Animal Farm is an allegory and it is symbolizing Soviet Russia. There are many reasons for this including certain characters representing real people. I believe that Major would represent Karl Marx or Friedrich Engels. “Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plow, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits”.
Old Major’s speech in the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, and Dr.Martin Luther King Jr’s “I have a Dream” speech were written by different people, for different reasons, at different times and places. Old Major talks about his vision for the future of Manor Farm where animals end the suffering caused by man while King talks about his vision for the future of America where racial injustice is nonexistent. After all of these differences the two speeches are still very similar. Both speeches talked about an injustice that they felt needed to end. Old Major talked about how the humans made the animals work and then took everything that they worked for and barely fed them.
Animal Farm by George Orwell is a classic allegory about the cruel reality of communism. The character Old Major, a pig, represents the founder of Marxism, Karl Marx. In the story he gives a speech about his vision for the animals on a farm, which starts a rebellion against the farmer, Mr. Jones. Old Major uses the rhetorical devices ethos, logos, and pathos to gain support for his vision, in order to end the mistreatment of the farm animals and overthrow the human race. Major uses logos in his speech when he says, “Man is the only creature that consumes without producing.”
Animalism is something that the animals have came up with but is later corrupted. Right before, the revolution began Karl Marx was killed just as Old Major was. The greater allegory in this story is to show you how corrupt the Russian Revolution was. In the beginning, Old Major had planted the seed of revolution into the minds of the other animals, but when he died who would carry on the revolution.
Instead, he advocates against violence and more towards a civilized life which displays Ralph's courage to stand up for what he believes in, even if it means he has to fight against a majority to make a positive impact, and shows why he is a hero. This can also be seen in George Orwell's Animal Farm when he argues that "Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever." (Orwell 8). Old Major, the highly respected pig on the farm, was trying to inspire the other animals to rebel against humans.
In high school I never had many extreme cases of “doing school” but I had a close friend who ended up becoming mentally ill by senior year from all the pressure he was putting on himself. He possessed many of the traits that I saw in the students from Pope’s book Doing School. He seemed to embody Pope’s main argument of how the school systems have the wrong focus and send the wrong message to their students . Through our high school career I observed the persistence of Eve, the drive for pursuing the arts of Michelle, and later the carelessness of Kevin develop in my friend. Ever since I met Isaiah he had a strong drive for his academics.
Both the animals and the humans grew tired of their rulers because of how they got treated. Old major is Lenin, the leader of the Bolshevik party. Old major is like Lenin because he was the leader of the animals in Animal Farm. He believes in animalism and Lenin believes in communism. Animalism is a concept Napoleon and Snowball made based on Old Major 's wishes after he died.
Being aware of the corruptive place they are living in, the animals start to prepare for their angry rebellion. As an act of urging them to revolt, Major sings "Beasts of England" which is used later by the animals as their slogan of revolution, the lyrics of this song indicates their angry feelings and the eagerness to rebel against the injustice as it says "soon or late the days is coming, tyrant man shall be o'erthrown" (Orwell 12). After the death of Major- the inspirational character- the animals start to prepare for the revolution by having secret meetings to teach the principles of Animalism. Normally, the animals have different opinions about the revolution because some of them think that it is unfair to expel Mr. Jones who feed
The characters in the story have many similarities and but also have some differences. Old major has connections to both Marx and Lenin. Marx wrote The Communist manifesto in 1848, this is paralleled in the book in the first chapter when old major tells his great ideas for all animal equality. Old major says that humans were the real enemy of the world, just like how Marx discussed
In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, Old major envisions a future for the animals in which they are not miserable and mistreated under the tyrannical presence of humans, but this view of a utopian society turns out to be flawed, much like many of history’s revolutions. According to Old Major, the animals shouldn’t become similar to humans in anyway, ranging from performing everyday tasks to adopting human morals and believes. “And remember also that in fighting against Man, we must not come to resemble him. Even when you have conquered him, do not adopt his vices.
Mr. Jones, the farmer and dictator of the farm, treated his animals harshly and made them work like slaves while he rested in the farmhouse, contributing nothing to the welfare of the farm. The farm animals were furious of Mr. Jones’ attitude and laziness as well as the unfair treatment they received. With their dismay towards the parasitical human beings, in an attempt to create an equal society, the animals rebelled and seized the farm. However, class division did not simply end here. As George Orwell had expressed through the novella, although dreams of creating a strong, equal society seemed so palpable upon the creation of communism, class division was inevitable and would remained to be a prominent issue by suppressing the poor and weakening the society as the ruling powers corrupt.
One example was when tension arose between Napoleon and Snowball shortly after he came up with the idea of the windmill. Napoleon became envious of Snowballs gain in popularity and ended up executing him from the farm. Another theme played in the novel is revolution and corruption. Animal Farm depicts a revolution in progress. Old Major gives the animals a new perspective on their situation under Mr. Jones, which leads them to envision a better future free of human
