One Hundred Years of JROTC: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. What does this mean to me?

President Harry S. Truman once said, “Men make history and not the other way around .In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better”. This quote emphasizes the importance of leadership in America so that we as a country can be stronger .The program yesterday, today, or tomorrow has one meaning, to develop leaders that will make our country better. The JROTC program was created in the past to strive against the distress of World War I. The leaders of that time knew that we needed more leaders so that America’s development would not stand still in the midst of urgency. Today, the meaning of the program serves more than just preparing men and women to become leaders during war. It also fosters leadership, character, and patriotism in daily life. As a result of JROTC programs, the future of our country will have more citizens that will better uphold the Constitution and the American way of life. …show more content…

Therefore, the 1916 National Defense Act was passed; creating JROTC programs .Moreover, Germany’s U-Boat attacks on American passenger transportation put the public in rage. As a result, the yearning for a larger and better prepared military intensified. In order for America to be successful during this war we needed well prepared soldiers and leaders. Our society could not afford to stand still and unprepared in the midst of threats. We needed a thicker protection for the American way of life, and world peace, to do so leaders were needed. This idea is the core of JROTC program
