The media can be aggravating, they are constantly in someone’s business. But sometimes the media can have a positive impact on situations. In the cases of Greg Kelley and Walter McMillian the media actually had a positive impact on the results. The cases were very similar, botched investigations, little to no evidence, falsely accused, and a rally of support. When these cases were looking bleak the media stepped in and boosted the cases to the public.

There are other ways that violence can be broadcast. Entertainment such as video games, music, videos, graphic novels and movies, all have an impact on the increasing violence in our generation. Video games can be played by everyone, especially adolescent from the age of 12-17. They can “play video games- on a computer, on consoles such as the Wii, PlayStation and Xbox, or on portable devices such as Gameboys, smartphones and tablets (APA).” Also from video games, music, videos, graphic novel and movies also contain sexual contents, alcoholism or drug addiction, guns, domestic violence, and etc.
The strength and effects of mass media are expressed perfectly in Denis McQuail’s article “The Influence and Effects of Mass Media.” McQuail does not really focus on the educational spectrum of mass media like Lunsford. Instead he tries to provide useful information about how mass media effects society as a whole and how there can be power gained from ownership of mass media. Instead of just thinking of mass media as a website that teenagers get on to post what they are eating for lunch or what they had to do that day, McQuail looks deeper and writes about how mass media can lead to political and economic power. There are many studies on media violence and its social effects.
