Art is a subject with no limits. I am inspired by innovative pieces of work and enticed by the adventure of where my imagination will lead me. Personally, exploring perspectives of art other people may not see and venturing into the imagination of other artists appeals to me as a fascinating way of discovering the world and how others perceive it. I feel a course in art will provide me with different opportunities as an artist to define my artistic style. A particular interest area of mine is facial expressions and emotions. In my fifth year at Carrick I took Higher Art and got my first experience in design and expression. I've learnt to widen my use of medias. I felt this course would be very interesting and a new learning curve for me, enhancing my problem solving skills as well as my ability to work independently. For work experience I was a classroom assistant at Cairn Primary School. During this time I prepared classroom activities and supported children in their school work. I gained leadership and communication skills providing a taste of teaching which has opened up a possible career path for me after school. Encouraging pupils to work to the best of their abilities would be very rewarding. My love for Art goes beyond the classroom. On a school trip with the art department I had an opportunity to visit Rozelle Art Gallery where Scottish artist Peter Howson presented a talk. I had the pleasure of drawing one of Peter's paintings and presenting it to him. He signed it and complemented my talents. This encouraged me to take my abilities further. Meeting him has interested me in his techniques and how he evokes emotions. I've been inspired to look at the diversity of other artists such as Francis Bacon. I completed my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award improving my team work and social skills. I am committed to a peer helping system in school which involves sixth year students mentoring first
