My decision to become a student and join the Open University was primarily to experience and learn more about English literature and further my creative writing skills. And I must admit when I was informed I would have to participate in the Arts, Past and Present course to further move on to the course I originally signed up for, English Literature and Creative writing I was slightly apprehensive and sceptical of what I could possible gain from taking part in this course. However, I must admit during my academic journey throughout this course I have learnt a lot more than I had expected and the study materials provided have opened my eyes, mind and broadened my insight into a wide range of subjects and perspectives. Throughout the course, I have learnt many subjects but I must admit that the subject I have enjoyed studying the most would have to be The Dalai Lama. I found it extremely interesting to learn about the life and history of the Dalai Lama, a person who I previously had no interest in gaining knowledge about. However, as I studied the information and the visual materials provided about the Buddhist leader I found myself becoming more open and enlightened by the Tibetan customs and the people associated with the religion. …show more content…
I am also thankful I began this course with several skills enabled already, which has helped me during the duration of my academic journey so far. One of these skills I believe I originally possessed before joining this course is the ability to critical analyse, however I do feel that this has been heightened during this course as the ability to academically ask questions has now become a natural part of my academic learning
