In the 19th century, a conflict of drugs and addiction was uprising throughout Britain and China. Opium was one of the popular addictions trending throughout these countries. The Opium wars took place during 1839-1860. The Opium Wars have impacted the way we exchange goods and extend power in the world we live in today, which leads to what is defined as imperialism. Imperialism is known as an action involving another country. There are multiple events of imperialism and the Opium Wars is one of them.

The Chinese heard about the British ships and sent their ships to where they were. The British took a warning shot. The Chinese sent a fire canal and the British shot the fire canal and one of the Chinese ships. This war started because the British bombarded the Chinese forces for defending a British ship. The Chinese still denied the British from entering Canton, but they would allow them to trade outside of city walls. This was due to a disagreement of the translated language in the Treaty of Nanjing. China was pleased with leaving the language how it was and didn't change it, but the British weren't too fond of it and began to protest. The actual recurrence of the war was because the British wanted a more flattering revision of the Treaty of Nanjing; the French and Japanese also wanted in on this too. Europe's technology is far more advanced than China's, so they easily demolished the Chinese fleet at Canton and took over the city. China underestimated Britain and France's power; which wasn't the right thing to do; and the European forces crushed the Chinese forts with great power and moved to Peking. The Europeans entered Peking while destroying and looting most of their prized possessions, which consisted of: Silver, Jade, Royal Robes, Thrones, and more.
