Social media has an impeccable reputation when it comes to delivering time-sensitive information and having the most inexpensive way of delivering electronic communication around the globe. In our world of technological advancement, communication is exchanged electronically, the issue of security has become more important than ever. Did you know that “Two-thirds of United States adults get their news from social media? (Morning Edition, 2011)”. I also believe that technology has changed the right to privacy, we’re living in the 21st Century and technology is great. There are many websites available on the Internet for consumers to use and it saves everyone time and money. This means that when a consumer exposes themselves to technology, everyone gets closer in the society, interacting with each other, but it is true that it decreases one’s privacy. For example, if one has a public profile it is easy to be accessed by anyone. I seriously believe that every user must watch what he or she puts online using social media because someone is always watching. In addition, businesses cannot be allowed to exchange a consumer’s information to gain a profit since it is a “Violation of privacy rights (Tell Me More, 2014)”. Companies cannot make any profit from consumer’s privacy act information. Plus, when businesses access consumer’s data and it only takes a person or small group to use this data inappropriately.
