On August 14, 1947, the country of Pakistan was officially declared a country. There were many struggles and difficulties that the people of Pakistan had to face in order for there to be a Pakistan. Before August 14, 1947, the area of land which is considered Pakistan was a part of India. The majority of the population in India at that time was either Hindu/Sikh, or Muslims. The Muslims were sick and tired of living with the Hindus and Sikhs, due to the fact that they had contradicting beliefs, and wanted to form their own country called Pakistan. However, thousands of lives were lost throughout this battle, even young children, and women were killed, women were also raped. Some British soldiers and journalists who had witnessed the Nazi death camps claimed Partition’s brutalities were worse: pregnant women had their breasts cut off and babies hacked out of their bellies; infants were found literally roasted on spits.” This was only some of the violence that was used. Other ways of violence and torture were also used which are too visually disturbing to state. Due to all of this violence and torture many lives were lost. One of the biggest cause/blame for this genocide was the British, and there are many reasons for this. One of those reasons is that the British got to decide how to partition India and Pakistan. Giving India the majority of the land, about 70%, and giving Pakistan two small pieces of land, one all the way east, and other all the way west, these two chunks of land added up to 30%. This caused major disagreements between the Muslims and the Hindus/Sikh, the Muslims found it unfair that they had less land and that they had to move from areas with high populations of Muslims to areas with low populations of Muslims. Another reason why is that they believed Pakistan wasn’t united because the two chunks of Pakistan were at opposite ends and couldn’t be united.
