Oprah Winfrey As a hero I think of Oprah Winfrey, she is an independent, confident, determined woman. She shows that you can put your mind up to do anything, and that all the obstacles in life doesn't stop you from being successful or trying to strive to do your best. As a role model for all people of any race, gender or group she has hearts of millions of viewers. She is an inspiration to many all around the world. At the age of the fourteen, she was on her on and she gave birth to a baby boy who died in infancy. Later after that she went to Nashville, TN to live with her who she said that saved her, he father gave her a better life. At the age of 17, she won Miss. Black Tennessee beauty pageant. She was offered an on-air job at WVOL. She also won a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, where she majored in Speech Communications and Performing Arts. She later left Tennessee State University and became a newscaster for WTVF in Nashville. She moved to Baltimore to join WJX-TV News as a co-anchor. Three years later, Oprah became a news anchor in Baltimore at an ABC station, but after 9 months, she was pulled off the air because of an emotional ad-lib delivery. She eventually ended up in Chicago hosting a morning show called “AM Chicago”. In less than a year, the show became number one and they changed it to the “Oprah Winfrey Show”. In that election year, she also announced plans for a new broadcasting venture with Discovery Health Channel, to be renamed Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
