Personal Statement
I truly believe that the secret to a rewarding profession is to find one which fulfills both educational interests, as well as one that can offer the fulfillment of a pure sense of purpose. I am applying to do a degree in Optometry as the modules covered in the course will help me further develop what I have studied in school and Sixth Form College. This will then help me eventually pursue a career as an Opticians. As an individual, Optometry has been a keen interest of mine and would like to pursue this as a career later on in my future. Finding out and learning more about Optometry and the study of eyes is something I have always been interested in. Through studying Biology I have learned a countless deal about why the human body develops illnesses and diseases, and the mechanisms used by the body to try and fight these diseases away. Biochemistry has become an interest to mine, and the understanding of it has been reinforced by studying A- level Chemistry and Biology. Chemistry has always been a subject that I have thoroughly enjoyed at school, and have always look forward to being able to apply the knowledge I have already gained in these subjects so that I can further develop an in depth understanding of science as a whole. I have always enjoyed learning new things and try to develop my knowledge as much as possible. In my case, this would allow me to follow a profession with a robust scientific aspect to the work, as I have always been interested in the fields of Biology and Chemistry, with the duty to help people on a day-to-day basis. My attitude to everything I do is responsible and I take pride in my precision and concern for detail. Recently I had participated in the local Race for Life 5K event for the 3rd time running and finishing in the top ten with over two thousand entrants. All the money that was raised went to Cancer research which is close to my heart. Throughout my years at school, I do my best to volunteer as much as I can and do anything to help the local community. While at Secondary School and following up to the Sixth form I have trained and coached the younger years teaching them basketball. This has helped me to put my skills to the test and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the lower years and have been committed to it since I started.
I thoroughly enjoy contributing in my local community, I have helped organize many charitable fairs as well as raising money for it by taking part in several activities such as charity fun runs, and five-mile runs; which was extremely rewarding for me personally as I had achieved 3rd place out of around two thousand.
