Dentistry first sparked my interest as I was watching my mother having a filling when I was a child. I was fascinated with the dentist and the nurse and how they worked together. I was never afraid of the dentist or my hygienist visits. I fell into dental nursing when I was looking for a job after finishing college which I could put the knowledge that I had learnt in my A levels to good use. I qualified as a dental nurse in June 2014 after working in a general dental practice since October 2012 and since then I have worked with many dentists in many different dental practices in the south west area. I believe that oral hygiene is the fundamentals of dentistry and smoking is a major factor in poor oral hygiene. In my spare time I love to be creative. I always have a crochet project that I spend my evenings working on and I recently made myself a blanket and a hand stitched crochet hook case. I like to paper craft and scrapbook as well, after finding a talent drawing while at school. Another interest of mine is nail art. I own over 80+ nail polishes which I use to paint the nails of friends and family using very small brushes to create detail oriented designs. This hobby has been good for my manual skills with increased ability to be able to work with my hands. I believe becoming a qualified dental nurse has been my first step towards my ambition to go to university to study dental hygiene. I have the responsibility for ordering the stock for all the surgeries and maintaining our central stock room. I also make purified water to use in autoclaves and the dental chairs, I also test and maintain our equipment e.g. B and N type autoclaves, washer disinfectors and suction motor. I have an active role within our practice by contributing at team and nurses meetings and working closely with our lead nurse to solve problems within practice. I believe that being able to lead the stock room has enabled me to work more closely with my colleagues and hearing feedback from them and using it to stay within our budget. I am a academic, self motivated worker who seeks to learn new skills under my own initiative to improve my skills at work. I am also a friendly, responsible, loyal person who can concentrate for long periods with attention to detail.
