Is Organ Donation Ethical?

Organ Donation is used to help patients in need of healthy organs survive. Organ donors are usually people who have a paired organ that they can donate or are people who have been declared brain dead. The question that often arises during organ donation is whether or not organ donation is ethical. I believe organ donation is ethical after a series of test have been conducted to prove that a patient can no longer survive without the assistance of a machine. Transplants of organs are always needed to help patients who have been long awaiting new, healthy organs, to live a longer and much less difficult life.

According to organdonor.gov an average of 22 people die every die because they couldn’t find a donor. The deaths of ill patients with failing organs is preventable if people realized that donating organs is actually beneficial to someone else after they die, so someone else can live a better life. After a long period of time patients who were anticipating organs may have new organs begin to fail at the same time, because organs work together and once one isn’t working well the other may also not be working well either. Several test are conducted to show that patients are actually brain dead. Organs aren't harvested until doctors are completely sure that the donor is “dead” and that their organs are fit for a transplant. It is unethical if organs aren’t donated because if someone has healthy organs and they would rather not donate them, they are being selfish in knowing that there is a long donor list and people are dying everyday because they didn't donate some of their organs.. Donating organs can save the lives of several people who are waiting for organs, by sending separate organs to different people. When someone lists that they would like to become an organ donor it makes the mourning process easier for their family, so the family doesn’t have to make as many difficult
