Introduction Most people are raised with the understanding that they need to obtain an education in order to gain employment. The American Time Use survey, reports that Americans spend 8.7 hours at their place of employment on a daily basis. Most working people have employment goals that they wish to obtain, however the process of accomplishing these goals can be interrupted when the climate and culture of the work environment becomes challenging. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the climate of an organization and then provide an individual with strategies that will enable one to maintain the position. Organizational climate will have the greatest impact when employer/employee perceptions are in sync (Peltier, 2009). In a recent interview, Vanessa Smith shared her perspective concerning the organizational climate at B.T. Elementary school through a phone interview. Ms. Smith has been working at her current establishment for 5 years. She was very pleasant and willing to answer a variety of questions relating to leadership, job satisfaction, and comradery. She shared that there is an overall lack of motivation among many of the staff members based on personal experiences that demonstrate unequal treatment. She continued to explain that accountability is lacking, resulting in minimal concern for consequences, and elaborates on a situation when a colleague interacts with a client in such a negative manner while demeaning leadership, yet there has been no disciplinary actions taken for either offense. In another situation Smith explains that several co-workers wear similar styles of clothing but they differ in size/weight. In light of this circumstance the following strategies are suggested as a means to assist Smith with having a positive impact on the climate as it relates to factors that are within her control. To increase personal accountability, build a support team by engaging with colleagues whose opinions and advice are valued. Peltier (2009) shares that part of managing relationships includes communicating with others in an effort to build bonds that will promote teamwork and collaboration. He continues to share the importance of being optimistic when facing challenging obstacles. Connecting with others that have a similar mindset will establish trusting relationships that encourage employees to stay with the organization (McGregor, 2005). Reflection of self will allow one to consider how they are perceived by others (Peltier, 2009).
