This background paper is to discuss the condition of organizational culture and my role in shaping the organizational culture of the 75th Security Forces Squadron Alpha Flight. 2. The condition of the 75th Security Forces Squadron Alpha Flight culture is and has been teetering between two extremes since the time I joined the flight in October of 2022. On one side you have a Flight Chief who does not value member’s time and not making members feel valued. Just one example I have of Flight Chief not valuing a member’s time is their decision to make every appointment on members days off. With an already taxing schedule due to training and daily operations, the negative impact is causing members to burn out from not having any real time off. …show more content…

My role in shaping the organizational culture for the flight is first to be aware of my unconscious bias that I have, the building of commitment and trust. Some ways I have been trying to build higher levels of commitment in the airman and staff sergeants is by getting to know at least 3 unique things about them, broadening their career opportunities, and discussing my vulnerabilities. I have prioritized to be transparent on educating members on balancing work and life. I exhaust all means to find ways to give them time back where I can, recognize their personal talents and give constant feedback. As a servant leader this quote resonates with me about how I define trust and that’s “Trust is the belief that others act in the interest of fairness and social welfare rather than their own self-interest” (Martinez and Zeelemberg,
