The novel Oryx and Crake, written by Margaret Atwood, follows the story of 3 characters. Jimmy, or as he later adapts to the nickname of snowman, is the character who readers follow the journey of more frequently, along with Oryx and Crake. Readers see how they live in this futuristic, dystopian world and the struggles they face while living in it. We also get to witness how they evolve themselves to adapt with the ever changing world. With this, much like the real world there is opposing opinions on situations that occur. Although the issues faced in the novel seem unrealistic to some aspect, as today’s technology is not as advanced, the reactions of citizens is all too real. She was an orphan growing up and that was all she knew for the early years of her childhood. She was then taken in at a young age by a man. He made her and the other children perform disgusting acts for grown men, involving them all in child pornography.For some reason the man had taken a liking to the young girl, more than the others. The man was later taken away and killed and perhaps things looked up for the young girl. Sady that was not true as another man took the girls in, involving them in the same business. This was all Oryx knew and what she found was normal in her everyday life. Because of this she tried to stay positive. The bad things that happened to her she does not focus on. She in a way likes to think they never occurred. She often tells Jimmy she doesn’t “think about it now. It’s long ago now.”(117) She always has a positive outlook on the world and tries to encourage that to others. She thinks that even “after everything that's happened, how can the world still be so beautiful? Because it is.”(138) While everyone else can only see chaos she tries to look beyond that and move on. She wants to see the good in the world's current state when no one else
